Here is something I notice in almost every surfer I work with for the first time. Their eyes are too close.

They are looking at the water right in front of them, or at their board, or at where they are instead of where they are going.

This creates a chain reaction. Your body follows your eyes. If your eyes are close, your body stays close. Your turns become small. Your lines become hesitant.

The fix is simple, but it takes practice.

Look to the future. Before you are there, your eyes are already there. On the section you are going to hit. On the exit after the turn. On the wave, not on yourself.

Try it this session. Every time you pop up, before you do anything else, look ahead. Not down. Not at your hands. Ahead. See what changes.

Ivan.
